A brief introduction to the history of the opening: The King's Gambit remains one of the most popular aggressive ways of dealing with the 'King's Pawn' opening. While modern engines have neutralised it, it remains occasionally prevalent at the top level due to its element of surprise. Top white players are still able to find ideas to ask uncomfortable questions to black players in certain positions, especially in shorter time controls.
At the club level, I think it is a great choice! Most of your opponents would have a superficial understanding of the opening. King's Gambit offers you the chance to gain initiative right out of the opening. And at that level, it is so much easier to play as the attacking side, even if the engine says otherwise.
King's Gambit was the favourite of one of the most legendary players of the 19th century, Paul Morphy (who is widely considered the 1st world champion, unofficially). Let's unleash our inner Morphy!
