The French Defence applies concepts that are intuitive to beginners, is highly playable with a theory-light repertoire, features recurring ideas across different lines that reduce memory load, offers asymmetric structures and counterattacking chances, and remains a serious weapon even at the GM level should you wish to deepen your study.
