The best by test! 1.e4 has been my opening of choice ever since switching from 1.d4 to 1.e4 a year or two ago. In terms of fighting for a dynamic and complex aggressive game there is no better option than this. The e-pawn establishes itself as a force in the center of the board, just daring to move forward if so needed which if done would create some questions about black's kingside safety. The kingside bishop is also open to develop immediately, creating plans involving quickly castling and attacking. The other advantages to 1.e4 are such that there are only really 4 openings white needs to prepare for. The King's Pawn Game, The Sicilian Defense, The French Defense, and The Caro-Kann. These openings all have one thing in common, they either challenge white's control of the d4 square, or challenge white's powerful e-pawn by preparing it first with a pawn to on the second move thrust with d7-d5. This makes it very easy to map out a repertoire for white, especially compared to 1.d4 where black has multiple viable options in multiple different variations. With 1.e4 you can effectively call anything other than the big 4 a good game for white. Another advantage is that white has so many choices in those big 4 openings, especially against 1...e5 where there are romantic gambits galore that promise fun positions devoid of boring positional and strategic play.
Play pawn to e4.
