White threatens d4, creating the perfect pawn center with pawns on e4 and d4. Our best moves are 1...c5 and 1...e5, with the idea of meeting d4 by taking it. I prefer 1...e5 because it helps us develop our f8-bishop, and it's more solid than the Sicilian Defense.
