White threatens d4, creating the perfect pawn center of white pawns on e4 and d4. Our best moves are 1...c5 and 1...e5 with the idea to meet d4 by taking it. I prefer 1...e5 because it helps us develop our f8-bishop, and it's more solid than the Sicilian Defense.
